Industry Shorts: BBC Six Nations, Matchroom Sport

The BBC has announced details of its Six Nations coverage, with current Wales centre Jonathan Davies joining the punditry team alongside England’s most-capped hooker of all time Dylan Hartley and ex-Australia coach Michael Cheika.

The broadcaster’s team will also include regular pundit and ex-Wales international Jonathan ‘Jiffy’ Davies as well as former England, Scotland and Ireland captains, Martin Johnson, John Barclay and Paul O’Connell respectively.

It has also confirmed that selected games from the Women’s Six Nations Championship will be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport’s digital platforms as well as being covered on a highlights programme every Sunday night on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.


Barry Hearn’s Matchroom Sport has acquired rights to host the World 9-Ball Pool Championship in perpetuity.

An agreement between the promotion company and the World Pool Association will see the Championship join Matchroom Pool’s portfolio of major events. The company had previously hosted the tournament between 1999 and 2008.


The One Running Movement, a sport for social change initiative, has announced a Pledge Fund bid with the integrated social media agency company Social Chain. 

Social Chain, which last year merged with German retailer Lumaland, has pledged to donate $1m of their global resources to achieve 17 global goals by 2030, focusing on four key areas of climate change, poverty, inequality and health and wellbeing.


The Silverstone Classic, an annual three-day racing festival, will mark its 30th birthday with retro races featuring historic racing cars.

The 2020 edition will include five iconic grids from the initial 1990 race, with historic F2 and Transatlantic Touring Cars also featuring.


Table Tennis England has agreed a five-year deal with Lincolnshire-based insurance company Mark Bates Limited, who will become the title sponsor of the National Championships.

The deal will cover all of the National Championships Table Tennis England, including the Senior, Cadet & Junior, and U10-U13 tournaments until the end of the 2023/24 season.
