Industry Shorts: Carabao, Sky Sports, America’s Cup

Energy drink brand Carabao has announced deals with both sides of Edinburgh’s traditional footballing rivalry Hearts and Hibernian.

The brand will become the Official Energy Drink partner for both clubs, as they prepare to take on each other in the Scottish Cup semi-final later this month.

While the two partnerships are equal, Carabao says Hibs will be backed by its Green Apple flavour, while Hearts will be sponsored by the Mixed Berry variant in a nod to the two sides’ traditional colours.


Sky Sports has announced it will screen the 36th America’s Cup presented by Prada, which will take place in March 2021.

The new deal means Sky Sports will show the America’s Cup World Series, Christmas Regatta and Prada Challenger series, culminating with the 2021 America’s Cup Match, which starts on 6th March. That event will see British challenger Sir Ben Ainslie lead the INEOS TEAM UK entry.

On top of live TV coverage, Sky Sports’ digital and social channels will showcase highlights and reports from all the key moments.


Former British Cycling Chairman Jonathan Browning, who was an Independent Director on the Board of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, has resigned from his role.

Browning cited his frustration at the Board’s ‘poor functioning’ in his resignation letter to the UK Government’s Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden. 

He is the second member to resign, after Dame Louise Martin stepped down in July to allow the Board to address a lack of diversity.


Masters Football will be available on Amazon Prime Video after a remastered digital version of the long-running event series was picked up by the OTT streaming service.

Masters Football Remastered will allow fans to relive the series’ Grand Finals from 2000 – 2011, which feature a host of footballing names from yesteryear, including Ian Wright, Roy Keane, John Barnes and Ally McCoist.


The London Landmarks Half Marathon has announced a new date for its 2021 race.

Baby charity Tommy’s, the organisers of the event, say 14,500 runners are set to cross the start line on Sunday 23rd May 2021, to raise funds for charity at the 100% not-for-profit event.

Organisers say they hope to raise £8 million for charities in 2021.


Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster has launched a new YouTube Channel – The Cycling GK – where the Championship player takes fans behind the scenes of what it’s like to be a footballer.

Foster’s nascent channel gives fans a glimpse into the Watford dressing room, and also shows a candid look at what it’s like to be a professional goalkeeper in one video, placing a GoPro camera in the goal to capture the action throughout the game.

Foster is also using the channel to show off his love of cycling, taking a look behind the scenes at how a new bike is made.


Hydration brand iPRO has added another two new deals to its portfolio of footballing partnerships. 

It will become the Official Hydration Partner of both Cardiff City and Barnsley, adding the EFL pair to the likes of Premier League sides Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Burnley as well as a host of other Championship, League One and FA Women’s Championship clubs.


The World Olympians Association (WOA) says it will offer 150 50%-funded academic scholarships to Olympians as part of its ongoing partnership with the World Academy of Sport (WAoS).

The pair signed a memorandum of understanding in July 2020, which saw the two organisations pledge to create more educational and employment opportunities for Olympians.
