Deloitte has published the 22nd Edition of its Football Money League showing that the combined revenue of the top 20 clubs broke the €8billion mark for the first time last season.
In another first, Real Madrid became the first club to generate revenue of over €700million by generating revenues of over €750million to claim the number 1 spot on the list. Barcelona came in 2nd with revenues of €690.4 to complete a top two Spanish duo, with Manchester United dropping to 3rd on the list having been 1st last year. Juventus failed to appear in the Money League top 10 for the first time since 2011/12.
English clubs dominate the list, partly due to the premier league broadcast rights revenue, with nine clubs named in the top 20.
The Twinning Project has announced that it has surpassed its launch target and that 32 Premier League and English Football League clubs have agreed to be part of the programme and ‘twinned’ with their local prisons to help tackle the high UK reoffending rate.
Launched on 31 October 2018, The Twinning Project aims to bring together professional football clubs and prisons across the UK to use football as a catalyst for change to provide real opportunities to better prepare prisoners for release, find employment and reduce reoffending which is a huge cost to the country and local communities.
Non-League Salford City has confirmed that David Beckham has taken a 10% in the club, becoming the last member of the class of ’92 to invest in the club. The class of ’92 now has a majority stake in the club at 60%.
Peter Lim will remain the single largest shareholder with 40%, with the club confirming he will continue to offer financial stability and is intrinsic in moving the club forward.
The investment from Beckham comes nearly 5 years after Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Gary & Phil Neville, and Paul Scholes took ownership at Moor Lane.
