Real estate investment fund PATRIZIA has received planning permission for a new build-to-rent (BTR) scheme on land surrounding Edgbaston Stadium.

The single-property scheme will comprise 375 high-quality apartments while offering approximately 20,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space on the ground floor. Construction is expected to complete in 2022.

Commenting on the project, Neil Snowball, Chief Executive of Warwickshire CCC, said: “By delivering new apartments and commercial opportunities for cafes and restaurants, this development project will transform the area around Edgbaston Stadium and make it a destination for people to visit 365 days each year.

“We’re also delighted that the approval of these plans enables the club to benefit from a new entrance plaza, which will provide a much warmer and impressive welcome to all visitors, whilst the reconfiguration of the car park and new landscaping will provide greener, contemporary surroundings for the stadium.

“Since the club began its development programme of Edgbaston, around 10 years ago, our aim has always been to make it one of the leading venues in the country and a great asset to Birmingham. This latest phase of development will go a long way towards achieving these goals.”

Valtteri Bottas has become the first Formula 1 driver since 1959 to recieve an extra world championship point for clocking the fastest lap of a race.

The Team Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport driver achieved the accolade with a 1:25.580 lap at the opening race of the 2019 F1 season in Melbourne.

It follows the introduction of a new rule for 2019, which will count towards both drivers’ and constructors’ championships, provided the driver concerned also finishes in the top 10.

F1’s Official Logistics Partner DHL is among those championing the move. The brand has presented its own DHL Fastest Lap Award since 2007 for drivers posting the most fastest race laps over the season.

Surrey County Cricket Club has announced a partnership with TX Corporation to deliver TX.IS – a new mobile ticketing app that improves ticket efficiency by enabling fans to receive tickets directly to their mobile device, and access fixtures at the Kia Oval via their phone rather than traditional paper tickets.

The app, which is available on both iOS and Android, accommodates purchases of multiple tickets, which can be transferred or forwarded electronically in a couple of clicks.

This technology will also allow Surrey County Cricket Club and the Kia Oval to better understand who is attending events, so that it can create more personalised experiences for the 250,000+ who are due to watch cricket at the ground this summer.
