The Championship is set to return to action from the weekend of the 20th June, the EFL has confirmed.
A government announcement giving the green light to sport’s behind-closed-doors return has seen horse racing and snooker return to action from 1st June, while the Premier League is scheduled to come back on the 17th.
The EFL says the restart date is subject to the ‘strict proviso’ that all safety requirements and government guidance is met. It says that clubs must also receive clearance from their local authorities in order to stage matches at their home grounds as a criteria for restart.
Meanwhile, a Formula 1 double header at Silverstone has been given the green light to go ahead by the government according to multiple reports in the BBC and Sky Sports News.
According to the reports, elite athletes will be exempt from the government regulations which require international travellers to self-isolate for 14 days upon entry into the UK, but will need to provide detailed information about their whereabouts and movements which will be subject to approval.
A F1 spokesperson said: “We welcome the government’s efforts to ensure elite sport can continue to operate and their support for our return to racing. We will maintain a close dialogue with them in the coming weeks as we prepare to start our season in the first week of July.”
The F1 season is scheduled to begin on 5th July in Austria.

La Liga has confirmed that the restarted season will feature football every day as well as midday and 9pm BST kick-offs. Given the warmer summer weather in Spain, the league says it will publish the expected temperature of each match, based on 10 years of historical data that is incorporated into its calendar selector tool.
The Spanish top flight also plans to enlist its fans to send in audio footage of their clapping which will be broadcast during matches. According to the league, the ‘Applause to Infinity’ will feature fans clapping during the 20th minute of each game in honour of frontline workers battling the coronavirus pandemic.
