The 2019 Cricket World Cup, which took place in – and was won by – England, was the most watched ICC event in history, the governing body has announced.
With a global cumulative live audience of 1.6 billion, the tournament saw an increase of 38% from the 2015 edition, as well as registering a unique broadcast audience of 706 million. The news comes on the back of record-breaking digital figures, with the ICC saying it had generated 3.5bn views across its own digital channels throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, 13.7 billion hours of the tournament were consumed globally, with an impressive 41% of the worldwide audience being women.
FIFA, the AFC, UEFA, the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Premier League have released a new joint statement, condemning again the pirate broadcaster beoutQ after a similar statement was released earlier in the summer.
In the statement, the titans of world football claim they now have proof that the broadcasts are being transmitted by satellites owned and operated by Arabsat, a satellite organisation owned by all Arab League states.
As such, all eight organisations have called on the Arab League directly to influence the termination of beoutQ and its pirate broadcasts and disrupt any ongoing illegal activities being conducted via its satellites.
