The IOC and the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee have unveiled a series of measures to ensure the Games are ‘fit for a post-corona world’.

According to the pair, more than 50 measures have been designed to maximise cost savings and increase efficiencies in Games delivery, with more opportunities to be identified in the build-up to the Games.

So far, organisers have split the measures into four main categories: stakeholders, infrastructure, promotion, and other areas of interest. 

Initial measures include the reduction of stakeholder personnel attending the Games, streamlining transport services, adjusting spectator activities at competition venues and hosting a number of pre-Games meetings online. READ MORE


Charlton Athletic has confirmed that Thomas Sandgaard has completed his acquisition of the club.

The Danish-American businessman has taken over 100% ownership of the League One club from East Street Investments Limited and follows the conclusion of the EFL’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test.

Sandgaard has become the club’s CEO and sole director. Meanwhile, the EFL confirmed that it held ‘cordial and constructive’ talks with the Charlton Athletic Supporters Trust and the Football Supporters Association.


O2 is set to extend its sponsorship of England Rugby, with the official announcement expected later today.

The brand has been a long-term partner to the RFU, and its current deal is set to expire next year. The news comes after the governing body for rugby in England announced that it would make 100 roles within the organisation redundant due to a shortfall of up to £107 million caused by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.


Pitch International has appointed Guy Le Grew as its Chief Revenue Officer, a new role created after the sports marketing agency reshuffled its media and advisory leadership team.

Le Grew will move from his current role as Managing Director, Cricket and Golf, to lead the agency’s media and advisory team across all of its sports interests.


British Cycling has announced that Newport will host the first round of the inaugural UCI Track Cycling Nations’ Cup, which will take place from 22nd – 25th April 2021.

The event – which will be delivered in partnership with UK Sport, Welsh Government and Newport Live – is the first elite-level international track cycling event to be held at the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales since 2013, and will be a vital landmark in the Great Britain Cycling Team’s preparations for the rescheduled Tokyo Olympic Games.

The launch of the UCI Track Cycling Nations’ Cup series follows a restructure of the international track cycling calendar by the UCI. Taking place between March and September, the three-round series will take place over three continents, and will be followed by the 2021 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, which will take place in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, from 13th – 17th October 2021.


Hydration company, iPRO, has announced long-term partnerships with Premier League side Crystal Palace and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park-based Netball franchise, London Pulse.

The announcement will see the brand supply its drinks range to Palace’s men’s, women’s and academy teams, while it has also committed to supporting events and community activations being delivered by the London Pulse.
