London Marathon Events has sent an open letter to runners signed up to participate in the 2020 version of the event – currently scheduled for a new date of 4th October.

The organisation says it has set a 7th August deadline for a decision on whether Virgin Money London Marathon will go ahead in October as planned.

Event Director Hugh Brasher highlighted plans published by a host of mass participation events which lay out measures to ensure safe social distancing, however he also confirmed that ‘areas within these documents [require] further consultation with local NHS Trusts’. 

As a result, a final decision will be taken and communicated to participants no later than 7th August, according to the organisation..


Organisers of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games have marked two years to go until the event’s Opening Ceremony by unveiling that the 3×3 basketball and beach volleyball competitions will both take place at a specially-built venue in the heart of the city.

Two bespoke arenas will be created side by side in the city’s Smithfield area, with the Birmingham skyline in the backdrop.

The area was the site of Birmingham’s Wholesale Markets in the centre of the city and will become a crucial venue for the Games, according to organisers. The arenas will aim to create an urban hub for the event a short walk away from landmarks such as the Bullring shopping centre, and will feature views of the Rotunda and Selfridges building.


Sky Sports has announced the presenter and pundit line-up for its Scottish Premiership coverage.

The broadcaster shared rights to the league with BT Sport last season, but will be home to exclusive coverage of the 2020/21 season with 48 live matches. 

Coverage will be fronted by presenter Eilidh Barbour and regular analyst Kris Boyd, while former players Ally McCoist, Darren Fletcher, James McFadden, and John Hartson will all join the punditry team ahead of the new season which begins on 1st August.


British Rowing has announced that sportswear brand Mizuno has extended its Official Sportswear Partnership for a further year. 

The extended partnership will see the brand supply performance wear to the GB Rowing Team and British Rowing staff until the end of the rearranged Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 next summer.


Sportradar has signed an expanded agreement with Badminton Europe (BEC).

The multi-year agreement significantly increases Sportradar’s scope of work with the governing body and adds to the betting and broadcast partnership that has been in place since 2015.

The sport data provider has become the Official and Exclusive Data Partner for all BEC competitions, supplying betting operators and media platforms with data from more than 35 BEC tournaments. The Miami Marlins MLB game against the Baltimore Orioles was postponed as 14 Marlins players and coaches tested positive for coronavirus.

The outbreak, which was discovered during testing after the team played against the Philadelphia Phillies, has also caused the Phillies’ match against the New York Yankees to be called off. 


Warwickshire has extended its spectator pilot programme, which will provide a test case for fans to enter stadiums for live sporting events.

The club’s friendly against Worcestershire at Edgbaston will be played in front of 1,000 spectators, and Warwickshire Members can now also apply to attend the first two days of the club’s opening match in the Bob Willis Trophy against Northamptonshire on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August.


UEFA has launched a tender for companies to assist its internet piracy monitoring and enforcement efforts.

A request for proposals was sent as the governing body for football in Europe said it, ‘takes the protection of its intellectual property rights, as well as the interests of its media partners, very seriously.’
