Not-for-profit health body ukactive has responded to the government’s spending review, welcoming ‘aibeit with caution’ the pledge to give additional funding to health, education and social care.
Ukactive CEO Huw Edwards said: “Amid the fog of Brexit, health policies have slipped, putting us far behind global leaders such as New Zealand and Iceland, which have recognised the urgent need to use spending as a means to improve the health and wellbeing of their people rather than solely measuring success by economic growth.
“We will continue to lobby on behalf of our members to reduce the barriers preventing people from being active, or restricting the impact that organisations working tirelessly to deliver physical activity opportunities can have.”
