Premier League and EFL clubs are set to discuss a collective wage deferral agreement with the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA)
The leagues aim to support clubs and non-playing staff through the coronavirus crisis, with professional football in the UK suspended until at least 30th April – though that could be extended further depending on the situation across the country.
Footballers at clubs across Europe such as Barcelona and Juventus have already agreed to defer wages until the end of the crisis, while the playing and coaching staff of Leeds United, as well as the club’s senior directors, have already announced they will defer their wages in order to help the club pay non-football staff at Elland Road and its Thorp Arch training ground.
The National League’s three divisions – the Vanarama National League, and the National League North and National League South – which make up the first two tiers of the non-league football pyramid, have been suspended indefinitely.
It was originally announced that the competitions would be suspended until the 3rd April, but following a board meeting, that has been extended indefinitely.
The news follows the FA’s decision to cancel the season for all tiers below the National League – which fall under its jurisdiction. The governing body for football in England has said that all results will be expunged, and no promotion or relegation will take place.
