Industry Shorts: Premiership Rugby, Wheelchair Tennis

The Premiership Rugby salary cap has been approved after the league’s Board unanimously supported the Myners Review and its 52 recommendations.

Conducted by former government minister, Lord Myners, the review recommended a salary cap, which has been agreed by all 13 Premiership Rugby clubs.

They have also agreed to move to the next stage of developing the recommendations into detailed regulation, which will involve further consultation between Premiership Rugby and its clubs, the RFU and the Rugby Players Association. 

The new regulations will then be presented to Premiership Rugby Board for approval.


Tennis’s four Grand Slam tournaments, along with governing body the ITF, have come together to pledge more than $300,000 in financial support for wheelchair tennis. 

The fund will provide grants to help wheelchair athletes and national association event hosts who have been impacted by the suspension of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour and postponement of major wheelchair tournaments..

The news follows the Player Relief Programme, set up to aid WTA and ATP Tour players, and any wheelchair tennis player who earned less than $100,000 in prize money in 2019 ranked inside the top 20 of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour rankings in the men’s and women’s open division, or in the top 15 of the quad division, will be eligible to apply for a grant. 


Manchester-based Inc & Co Group has acquired digital innovation agency Skylab.

Skylab was founded in 2005, and both founder Nigel Collier and Strategy Director David Logan – who joined shortly after its launch – will continue to support the business which will sit within Inc & Co Group’s creative collective alongside fellow digital agencies Cuhu and Neon.

Based in Manchester, Skylab has worked with the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City; Formula 1 team Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso; National Governing Bodies such as Swim England and the British Paralympic Association; and world federations such as FIFA and the IOC.


Charlton manager Lee Bowyer has revealed that three of his players won’t play for the club when the EFL Championship season returns.

The season is set to come back on 20th June, but top scorer Lyle Taylor as well as Chris Solly will not return as they are out of contract and don’t wish to risk injuries, according to Bowyer, who confirmed that a third player, David Davis, who is on-loan from Birmingham City, will also be unavailable for the restart.


The W Series has announced the commentary team for its brand-new W Series Esports League which will commence on June 11 2020.

The new esports series, for female drivers only, will promote female sim-racing visibility, and has announced eracing commentator Luke Crane as its lead commentator alongside 13-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner David Coulthard as co-commentator.

The series will also feature Channel 4 W Series coverage presenter Lee McKenzie, as well as Formula 3 driver and Channel 4 Formula 1 pundit Billy Monger as the Esports League’s race pundit.
