The Chair of Fifa’s Medical Committee has said football should start preparing for next season.

Michel d’Hooghe told the BBC: “My proposal is if it is possible, avoid playing competitive football in the coming weeks.

“Try to be prepared for the start of good competition next season.

“I speak as a medical doctor, I don’t have to speak as an organiser of matches, but for the moment from my medical standpoint I would be very sceptical.”

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi has said that the club could play UEFA Champions League matches abroad.

His comments come after French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced that the ban on sporting events – even those behind closed doors – would continue until September, ending the country’s domestic football season early.

Al-Khelaifi said: “We respect of course the French Government decision.

“We plan on competing in the Champions League with UEFA agreement – wherever and whenever it is held. If it is not possible to play in France we will play our matches abroad subject to the best conditions for our players and the safety of all our staff.”

Former Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomals has been announced as an ambassador for the 2021 Union Cup, an LGBT+ rugby competition set to be held in Birmingham next year.

Formula E will continue to host an E-Prix in Rome until 2025 after the city signed a new agreement with the all-electric, single-seater motorsport series.

The 2020 street race in the city was set to take place on 4th April, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The deal will run for five years, subject to approval by the FIA.
