UEFA has launched a simulator to help fans understand the complicated EURO 2020 play-off system.

By the end of November, 20 of the 24 competing nations will have qualified from the qualification groups, but four places will remain outstanding. These are to be decided in a play-off phase in March 2020, and UEFA’s new simulator tool is designed to help fans and the media understand how this works, based on scenarios designed by the user.

The IAAF has rolled back its use of the ‘block cam’, which has been used at the World Championships in Doha. The innovative positioning of cameras underneath the blocks was intended to give viewers a glimpse of the focus on athletes’ faces as they prepared to start a sprint race and then the explosion of energy as they took off.

Some runners have welcomed the camera positioning, while others have found it intrusive. The IAAF said it has “appropriate measures in place to protect athlete privacy during the process of selecting images for broadcast,” as it confirmed the camera angles have been tweaked.

BUCS has announced Speedo as the headline sponsor of the BUCS Swimming Series.

The series hosts more than 1,700 students from 120 UK institutions and will see the brand offer discounts to students in the build-up to competitions.

London Landmarks Half Marathon has appointed specialist sports and fitness PR agency Promote to manage its UK consumer PR.

Promote will work across content creation and storytelling, recruitment of media and celebrity runners and will also establish media partnerships, and manage existing media relations to raise awareness of the event.

Spain’s La Manga Club has been named as the venue for the 2020 Bonallack Trophy and the Patsy Hankins Trophy.

Both competitions feature teams of 12 players from Europe and Asia competing in a three-day tournament across foursomes, fourballs and singles, with the men competing for the Bonallack Trophy and the women for the Patsy Hankins Trophy. It will be the first time that five-time Spanish Open course has played host to the prestigious amateur events.
