Tottenham Hotspur has completed the second half of its innovative shirt sponsorship strategy after agreeing a lucrative new deal with specialist bank and asset manager Investec for all domestic and European Cup competitions.

The announcement comes only a matter of weeks after the club announced that it would be splitting its shirt sponsorship rights in two, agreeing an estimated £20m two-year deal with software firm Autonomy to take the rights to all Premier League games.

The corresponding two-year shirt sponsorship deal with Investec, effective from Season 2010/2011, will see the brand feature on the Tottenham Hotspur shirts in all cup competition matches including European club competitions, FA Cup and League Cup, becoming the first brand to appear exclusively on the club’s cup competition shirts.

The Investec deal is believed to be worth £2.5m a year plus bonuses depending on the length of the various Cup runs bringing Tottenham’s collective revenue from the sale of its shirt sponsorship rights to the £30m mark.

Listed on both the London Stock Exchange and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Investec is an international specialist bank and asset manager that provides a diverse range of financial products and services to a select client base in three principal markets, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Australia as well as Botswana, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Canada, Ireland, Jersey, Mauritius, Taiwan, Namibia and Switzerland.

As a business with its origins in South Africa, Investec has many synergies with Tottenham Hotspur which has an established presence in South Africa through its joint academy with Premier Soccer League Champions SuperSport United and several charity and community-based initiatives.

The club also has a growing supporter base throughout the country, having undertaken recent tours in South Africa in 2003 in support of South Africa’s World Cup bid and again in 2007 when they won the Vodacom Challenge.

The new Cup shirt will be worn for the first time during the first leg of the Club’s Champions League qualifying tie against Young Boys in Berne, Switzerland on 17th August 2010. The club’s home cup shirt featuring the Investec logo will be released for retail sale.
