The IOC has extended its Worldwide Olympic Partnership with digital transformation organisation Atos in a deal which will see the pair continue to collaborate until 2024.
The move sees Atos extend its long-standing The Olympic Programme (TOP) partnership for another four years to take in the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Games, which will take place in 2021, as well as the Winter Games Beijing 2022 and the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
As part of the deal, Atos will continue to support the IOC’s digital transformation and will also secure the IT infrastructure for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 and Olympic Games Paris 2024 – where the company has its headquarters.
“In these unprecedented times, the support and confidence of our Worldwide Partners is now more important than ever,” said Thomas Bach, President, IOC.
“In line with Olympic Agenda 2020, the IOC’s strategic roadmap for the future, we are pleased to continue working with Atos, our trusted guide in a period of great digital transformation, to provide the digital backbone and key digital platforms we rely on to run the Games.
“We are delighted to be able to keep counting on Atos to support the Olympic Movement and to help bring the Olympic values to billions of people across the globe.”
Elie Girard, CEO, Atos, said: “We are thrilled to further extend our already 30-year-strong journey with the IOC. We will be pursuing our commitment to the empowerment of the Olympic Games through leading technology and innovation – fully connecting, securing and digitally enabling the Games to all stakeholders. We will accomplish this feat by uniting people, business and technology, and providing sustainable solutions to the IOC, putting environmental commitment at the heart of the Olympic approach, aligned with Atos’ strong environmental commitment in tackling the climate change emergency.”
Atos’s involvement with the IOC began in 1989, when it became Information Technology Partner to the Olympic Movement, providing services for the Barcelona 1992 Organising Committee.
Atos became the IOC’s Worldwide Information Technology Partner in 2001 and has since delivered infrastructure for the Games, including critical IT services over the cloud for the first time at the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang.
The IOC has also confirmed that the agreement also includes marketing rights for the IPC and Paralympic Games through the IOC-IPC long-term collaboration agreement, as well as for the Youth Olympic Games.
