The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has passed a number of changes to the bidding process for the Games, set to make it easier and cheaper for host city candidates.

The changes come as part of a two-day session in Monaco, held on Monday 8th December to Tuesday 9th December, where a list of over 40 recommendations will be discussed to improve future Games.

The proposed recommendations range from allowing events to be held outside of the host country or city, the launch of a dedicated Olympics TV channel, and whether individual events should be added or removed, rather than whole sports.

Speaking ahead of the two-day session, Thomas Bach, IOC president, said: ‘The Olympic Agenda 2020 is like a jigsaw puzzle. Every piece, every recommendation, has the same importance. Only when you put all these 40 pieces together will you see the whole picture. You see progress in ensuring the success of the Olympic Games, progress in safeguarding the Olympic values, and progress in strengthening sport in society.’

These changes come after the German Olympic Committee, the DOSB, has confirmed that it will put forward Berlin or Hamburg as an applicant city to host the 2024 summer Olympic Games.
