Sky Sports has acquired broadcast rights to the Indian Premier League (IPL) across the UK and Ireland, in a four-year deal running until 2027.

The agreement covers all 74 matches from the men’s Twenty20 domestic league and comes ahead of the 2024 IPL season, which gets underway on 22nd March and runs until 26th May.

All Women’s Premier League (WPL) fixtures are also included in the deal.

As part of the deal, Sky sublicensed the rights from Indian broadcaster Viacom18, which holds the international media rights for the IPL and WPL across a number of territories.

Comcast-owned Sky has held IPL rights since 2020. Last year, the network and streaming giant DAZN penned a five-year sub deal to sublicense IPL games from Viacom18. However the Indian broadcaster would later reclaim those rights from DAZN, with that agreements agreement with DAZN is nearing an early termination after one season, according to recent reports.

Coverage of the IPL will be available on Sky Sports’ dedicated cricket channel, as well as on the NOW TV over-the-top (OTT) service.

Jonathan Licht, Managing Director at Sky Sports, said: “The IPL and WPL are two fantastic competitions that see the world’s best players compete in front of a fanatical local audience – resulting in some of the most explosive and entertaining cricket in the calendar as we saw with the conclusion of the WPL on Sunday.

“We’re excited to bring these great live events to life on Sky Sports, adding to the already unrivalled cricket line up this year and giving fans access to more of the sport and players that they love.”
