A publicity stunt planned by the Tongan rugby team and Irish bookmaker Paddy
Power has been shelved after the players agreed with the International Rugby
Board not to dye their hair green for their Rugby World Cup game against
England.
The Tongans had been set to take to the field in Paris with their hair dyed
green as a dedication to Paddy Power for supporting them financially in France.
However governing body the IRB ruled that the move would constitute
advertising and has ordered Tonga not to go ahead.
The move is the second time that the IRB has been forced to rule against
Paddy Power and the Tongan team.
Ahead of the tournament, centre Epeli Taione adopted the name of the
bookmaker but the IRB ordered that Taione could not be referred to by his new
moniker in any match commentary or analysis and refused to amend his entry in
the tournament guide.
