Scottish Rugby has announced AG Barr, the company famous for Irn-Bru, as the governing body’s official soft drink partner – who will also provide the team and supporters with spring water brand Strathmore and Barr Cola.

The new partnership will see the national team, sevens team and domestic sides Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby supplied by AG Barr products for the next two seasons.

The Scottish brand will also become the official soft drink partner of the Emirates Airline Glasgow sevens tournament.

AG Barr signed a deal in 2012 to become an official sponsor of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Dominic McKay, the director of commercial operations, communications and public affairs for Scottish Rugby, said of the deal: ‘Irn-Bru, in all its manifestations, is an iconic Scottish product, enjoyed by many, and there’s considerable synergy in its new relationship with Scottish Rugby.’

Adrian Troy, the head of marketing at AG Barr added: ‘We’re delighted to be partnering with Scottish Rugby because rugby has always had a special place in the hearts and minds of Scots.’

Scotland is the only country in the world whose number one soft drink is not Coca-Cola or Pepsi. The soft drinks company recently sponsored Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games, demonstrating their patriotic marketing agenda.
