The International Triathlon Union (ITU) has announced a new deal with ASICS and a renewal to its partnership with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT).

ASICS’ multi-year global agreement will see the sportswear manufacturer become global development partner.

The ITU 2018-21 strategic plan takes a step forward with the new global partnership with ASICS, which provides support to the ITU development programme both financially and in terms of sporting equipment.

NTT will continue as the exclusive communications and systems integration partner and hold rights at various events in Japan, Asia and across the world in the lead-up to the Olympics in Tokyo 2020.

“ITU is delighted to welcome ASICS as the new naming global partner in triathlon development as we continue to grow our sport around the world across the Tokyo 2020 Olympic cycle and beyond,” said ITU President and IOC member marisol Casado. “The comprehensive 2018-2021 strategic development plan is designed to maintain the current upward trajectory of the sport of triathlon and this partnership allows us to reach further than ever in that quest.”

“We are thrilled to be able to support the ITU as a Global Development Partner.” said Motoi Oyama, chairman, president & CEO of ASICS Corporation. “We at ASICS are committed to improving lives through sport by helping athletes around the world get moving and feel the benefits of being stronger, happier and sharper every day.”

On NTT, ITU president and IOC Member Marisol Casado said: “It has been a real pleasure working with a company like NTT for the last few years, and I’m convinced that keeping this relationship moving forward will be excellent for both organisations.

“NTT has a proven history of delivering value to clients to the highest standards, which is also one of our main goals at ITU. This great cooperation will help us in our mission to make triathlon accessible to everyone by providing state of the art technological services to athletes, fans and spectators alike. And I want to extend our gratitude to the Japanese Triathlon Union, whose support has been vital for this lasting agreement in the pursuit of growing the sport not only in Japan but globally.”
