ITV has announced an impressive 72% share of the UK TV audience for England Rugby’s semi final fixture against New Zealand, claiming that 10m people in total tuned in to watch Eddie Jones’s side qualify for the 2019 Rugby World Cup final.

The broadcaster also announced an average 7.4m people watched the game, a sharp increase on the pool stage figures, when ITV says that the 5.7m who watched Scotland’s defeat at the hands of host nation Japan represented the channel’s largest overall daytime audience since Boxing Day 2016.

The semi-final figure is set to be eclipsed on 2nd November, when England face South Africa in a repeat of the 2007 Rugby World Cup final, when the Springboks ran out 15-6 winners.

ITV has also announced that its coverage of the flat racing season saw increasing viewing figures, with numbers up 13.5% on last year.
