British free-to-air television network ITV has secured rights to broadcast Spanish football’s top-flight, LaLiga, in a new three-season deal.
The league, which features some of the biggest clubs in world football including Barcelona and Real Madrid, will be broadcast live on ITV, ITV4 and the channels streaming and catch-up service, ITV Hub.
The sub-licensing agreement with Viaplay Group-owned Premier Sports kicks off from this current season and runs up to and including the 2024/25 campaign.
Premier Sports has held the exclusive UK rights to La Liga since 2019, with that agreement being extended this year to run until the end of the 2024-25 season, the same as the ITV deal.
The coverage of the league season will be limited, with ITV having secured the UK rights to 10 matches per season, with either FC Barcelona, Real Madrid or Atlético Madrid appearing in the ITV games.
ITV’s first La Liga match will be Real Sociedad v FC Barcelona on Sunday 21st August, with coverage on ITV4 and kicks off at 9pm.
Niall Sloane, ITV Director of Sport, said, “This deal ensures free to air coverage for all football fans of one of the most entertaining leagues in the world.
“The deal with Premier Sports will give fans the chance to see some of the most iconic clubs and world-class players in action, live on ITV.”
ITV’s matches will also be available on Premier Sports and LaLigaTV, where all other available live games will be broadcast.
