The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced plans to employ a London-based sales executive to extend the franchise’s activity in the UK market.
The announcement follows the team’s recent decision to play a regular-season home game in London from 2013 to 2016. The new sales executive is part of the plan to boost sponsorship sales in the UK as officials revealed plans to re-brand the franchise, including a new logo.
The Florida-based franchise has been struggling to fill its 67,000 seat stadium as well as having a run of disappointing seasons since 2007. The team’s game on 27th October 2013 at Wembley has already sold out, giving some much needed financial support to the club, with ticket prices at the London stadium 44% higher than in the Jaguars’ home stadium. Mark Lamping, president of the Jaguars, stressed the importance of the club extending into the UK market, saying: ‘London makes us stronger in Jacksonville.’
The St. Louis Rams were the last team to announce similar plans to play more regular-season games in London, however those plans have been adjusted as the club has had to focus on re-developing its home stadium.
