JD Sports has acquired French sneaker retailer Courir in a €520m (£433m) deal following approval from the European Commission, strengthening its European presence.

Courir operates over 300 stores in France and across international markets, including franchise locations in North West Africa, the Middle East, and French overseas territories.

Additionally, Courir runs three Naked stores, a premium concept targeting the women’s sneaker market.

As a condition of the acquisition, JD Sports will divest 15 Courir stores in France and six in Portugal to the German sneaker retailer Snipes by the first quarter of its 2026 financial year.

These stores will continue to operate under the Courir brand until the transfer is completed.

Courir reported revenues of €725.8m (£604m) and profits before interest and tax of €50.3m (£41m) in 2023.

Régis Schultz, JD Sports CEO, said, “The completion of our acquisition of Courir is an exciting milestone for our Complementary Concepts strategy in Europe.

“This acquisition will broaden the JD Group’s customer reach, adding a more female, fashion-conscious, and older customer base to complement our core customers.”
