JJB Sports, the sports retailer, has agreed a one-year deal to sponsor a new 12-team Irish Football Association Premiership which starts on Saturday 8th August.

The package, which could be extended after the 2008/9 season, was agreed after Carnegie’s three-year deal came to an end through mutual conclusion.

JJB already sponsor the Irish Cup and are kit suppliers to the IFA.

‘Seeking a new sponsor for the IFA Premiership, the Irish Football Association had discussions with many companies over the course of the last six months and a number of offers were made to the Association,’ read a statement from the IFA.

‘Whilst the IFA wanted to attract a valued and reputable company, it was also important to the Association that any potential sponsor would have a keen interest in sport and Northern Ireland.

‘The Association was therefore thrilled to learn of JJB Sports’ interest in the sponsorship opportunity.’
