An opportunity has opened up at Benchmark Sport International, the holding company of a number of global sporting networks including the Sport Industry Group, to join the team as head of events.

As an entrepreneurial company, Benchmark Sport International has developed a reputation for building prestigious sports brands from the ground up and is now responsible for some of the biggest flagship events in sport, business and philanthropy.

The Role

The primary focus of the head of events is to provide an overarching management of the whole portfolio of events owned by BSI. As well as a team of three staff. The role involves direct responsibility of a number of events as well as supporting members of the team on other projects. Due to the size of the team and the scale of events we produce, the role is very much ‘hands on’ and as such, those applying for the role should expect to be involved in events on every level – from packing boxes right up to sponsor liaison.

Key Responsibilities

  • To successfully deliver BSI’s annual programme of events.
  • Set budget projections, and manage budgets on an ongoing basis.
  • Work with the commercial team to deliver existing and new events which prove to be financially successful.
  • Project manage events from start to finish, working towards shared objectives, in terms of sponsor delivery and financial targets.
  • Work with existing and new suppliers to negotiate deals.
  • Ensure sponsor deliverables are met and expectations exceeded across all events.
  • Control costs and maximise revenue of each event.
  • International travel is essential, so a degree of flexibility is expected in terms of weekend work.
  • Management and responsibility for the events team.
  • Manage the annual calendar of events, delegating events throughout the team in a fair and successful way.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing support for the event team.

  • Ability to communicate with all levels of authority.
  • Keep calm and focussed whilst delivering the events.

Experience

  • At least 6 years working in events.
  • Experience managing reportees.
  • Knowledge of the sport industry is beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience managing 6 figure budgets desirable

Reporting

The Head of Events will report to the CEO of BSI.
