Live-streaming service Joymo has announced a new partnership with the Northumberland Football Leagues that will see one of the UK’s biggest football organisations livestream some of its competitions when grassroots sport returns.
The collaboration – which Joymo says is one of the first between a streaming services provider and a UK grassroots football league – will kick-off with exclusive coverage of Northumberland’s Senior Women’s League, Under 19 Boys League and the association’s annual youth tournament, which features more than 200 amateur clubs in the county. In total, the Northumberland Football Leagues serves over 15,000 players.
The games will be streamed using the Joymo Share app and available for fans to watch both live and on-demand via the Joymo’s OTT video streaming platform. The league and its affiliated teams will also be able to sell pay-per-view, pay-per-tournament and pay-per-season tickets, potentially creating new revenue streams for grassroots teams.
“The Northumberland Football Leagues takes pride in being seen as a proactive and progressive football organisation in the UK, and this is the type of partnership that underpins this reputation,” said Ian Coates, General Manager, Northumberland Football Leagues.
“In a post-Covid world, we can see huge benefits in being able to stream matches and give supporters the opportunity to watch their team’s live, even if they are unable to attend in person. We do anticipate that restrictions will be in place on the number of attendees at games so Joymo provides the perfect solution.”
“Longer-term, Joymo will provide huge value to players, coaches and supporters and give clubs and teams the opportunity to generate additional revenues that can be crucial in covering the operational costs that exist at grassroots level. This can only be a good thing for the future of grassroots football, which remains the lifeblood of the sport. We can’t wait to get our competitions back up and running after March 29 and are excited by the possibilities Joymo offers to the league and our member clubs.”
Mike Emery, CEO, Joymo, added: “This is a really exciting partnership for Joymo. Northumberland Football Leagues is one of the most highly regarded associations in the UK, with thousands of passionate players, coaches and supporters representing clubs in the region. We can’t wait for the season to resume and to start working with the league to share their valuable content via our platform.
“The Covid pandemic laid bare a lot of the issues facing grassroots sport and Joymo is proving to be a cost-effective solution for organisations looking to bounce back when grassroots sport returns. Our aim is to empower sports organisers and participants, at all levels, by providing them with the tools and technology to broadcast directly to their fans. Joymo not only helps content creators generate additional funds, but provides them with ownership of all advertising, sponsorship and user data.”
