Aintree Racecourse has announced Katie Walsh as a Ladies Day ambassador of The 2015 Crabbie’s Grand National Festival, who will become the focus of Ladies Day advertising campaign and will support on social media.
In her new role, the jockey will also write a blog for the Aintree website and help promote Ladies Day at the Festival.
Katie is the most successful female jockey in Grand National history, and in 2012, she finished third in the Grand National on Seabass, giving her the highest finish for a female competitor.
The Irish jockey is daughter of trainer and television pundit, Ted Walsh and the sister of Aintree Legend and jump jockey, Ruby Walsh.
Katie Walsh said: ‘It’s a privilege for me to become a Ladies Day ambassador of The 2015 Crabbie’s Grand National Festival. The Grand National is the greatest steeplechase in the world and has always been close to my heart, especially with the great run of Seabass in 2012.’
‘Grand National Ladies Day is a great day with high-class fashion as well as top-quality Grade 1 racing, so I’m keen to do what I can to help and I look forward to working with the team and riding at Aintree in April.’
The Crabbie’s Grand National Festival takes place at Aintree from 9th to 11th April 2015 and will see the 168th running of the Grand National steeple chase since the first Grand National 176 years ago.
John Baker, Aintree and North West Regional Director for Jockey Club Racecourses added: ‘We are extremely pleased to be working with Katie for The 2015 Crabbie’s Grand National Ladies Day.’
‘Katie is a respected, successful female jockey with a family who have a long and respected history in our sport, and she will be a great ambassador for next year’s Ladies Day.’
‘We are excited about our collaboration with one of the best female jockeys in the World and we look forward to a successful relationship. We have a fantastic team at Aintree who are always looking to enhance and elevate The Crabbie’s Grand National, and Ladies Day is no different, with a number of exciting additions to announce in the coming months.’
