Sheffield Wednesday has appointed Katrien Meire as chief executive, following her stepping down from her role at Charlton Ahtletic.
Meire left her position as CEO and director of Charlton at the end of last month and has been with the club since January 2014.
Her role involved supporting the first team and academy management, leading off the field day-to-day management.
Meire said: “This has personally been a very difficult decision to make as I love working for the club with all the terrific staff at The Valley and Sparrows Lane but I believe I need a new challenge. I’m very grateful for my time here at Charlton. I wish the fans, staff and club every success and I will always keep an eye out for the results.”
On her move to Hillsborough, she said: “I am so pleased to take up the position of CEO at Sheffield Wednesday. This is a massive challenge at a massive club and I am looking forward to beginning this journey. The chairman has very exciting plans for the club in the short and long term, and I bought into his vision immediately.
“The size of the club and fan base at Hillsborough is renowned in the football world, which were key factors in my decision to join.”
Owls chairman Dejphon Chansiri added: “I would officially like to welcome Katrien to Sheffield Wednesday. Katrien’s appointment is a key development for our club and one which I am delighted to make.
“I have said for some time that I would only appoint a CEO should the right person fit my specification to lead the structure of Sheffield Wednesday on a day to day basis. I am 100% convinced I have found that person in Katrien and I am delighted to confirm her appointment.”
Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet said: “It is with regret that the board of directors accepted Katrien’s resignation earlier this month. I want to thank Katrien for her loyal service and commitment. We are sorry to see her go and wish her well for the future.”
