A new health assessment clinic, developed primarily for the world of professional sport, opened last week on Palm Jumeirah in Dubai.
The 17,000 square foot facility includes a state-of-the-art Sports and Human Performance Laboratory which brings together advanced technology, equipment and analysis techniques. The laboratory is able to assess everything from cardio-metabolic fitness, range of motion and muscle kinetics through to hand-eye co-ordination, agility and more. These in-depth tests and assessments not only enable clients’ existing injuries and health concerns to be analysed, but they are also capable of unearthing potential problems that may arise in the future, together with offering in-depth insight into how performance levels could be enhanced.
The laboratory features a 21-metre running track and a battery of high definition cameras which monitor and analyse whole body motion. These high definition, high speed cameras – developed specifically for nanoM – monitor nano movement from every angle and at every level possible, providing an in-depth 3D assessment of the client’s body and motion. In doing so, this technology can help pinpoint existing or potential problems for athletes.

Other technology includes the Gait and Motion assessment system, which merges several pieces of technology for the first time, to provide an in-depth analysis of an athlete’s full body motion. Multiple reaction plates on the floor measure ground reaction forces as the athlete moves across the platform and at the same time, 3D motion cameras collect data through wireless sensors, which are attached to the athlete, to analyse how the joints are moving. Alongside this – wireless EMG sensors look at how the nervous system is working providing further insight into how the muscles are performing and, with the addition of wireless reaction time sensors, we can also measure reaction times all at the same time.
Through the 3D Posture and Spine Assessment, an athlete’s posture, including their spine alignment, can be analysed. High definition cameras capture images from the left, right and centre, to provide a detailed insight on the posture of both the upper and lower body.
Alongside the extensive sports testing on offer for professional and former athletes, nanoM’s Medical Assessment Centre offers a host of in-depth health and wellbeing assessments including biometric testing, MRI scans and ultrasounds, dentistry, heart and lung screenings and mental stress analysis.
The clinic was opened last week by former England and Chelsea midfielder, and nanoM ambassador, Frank Lampard.

Speaking about the facility, Lampard said; “Going back ten years, this is the kind of facility that I would have loved to have had access to. To have everything here, under one roof, is so unique and it means you don’t need to visit multiple clinics, and see multiple doctors and surgeons, for different issues.
“This is exactly the kind of facility that players today will really benefit from, especially when you consider that the technology they have here can help to pinpoint potential issues before you even know about them. That’s something that could genuinely have a big impact on how players detect and respond to injuries, which can only be a good thing. I think this is the future”.
