Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR) has announced Jaguar Land Rover as its title sponsor for the 35th America’s Cup, who will also become the exclusive innovation partner of the British challenger.
As part of the deal the team, founded by Ainslie in 2014, will be renamed Land Rover BAR and has established itself in a new 74,000sqft purpose-built home in Portsmouth.
Jaguar Land Rover’s advance engineering team has now begun assisting BAR with design challenges and will work closely with the team’s technical innovation group, powered by PA Consulting.
Mark Cameron, global experiential marketing director, Jaguar Land Rover, commented: “At Land Rover we have a long history in sailing. This incredible partnership with BAR has given us the opportunity to showcase our world class expertise in advanced engineering and innovative technologies which lie at the heart of everything Land Rover does.
“Yes, we make cars, but we will make a real difference to the performance of the Land Rover BAR team and we will help create the fastest boat possible in the hope of bringing the America’s Cup to the UK for the first time.”
Ben Ainslie, Land Rover BAR principal, added: “We are delighted to have Land Rover as our title and exclusive innovation partner.
“Land Rover is a great British brand, but also a fantastic engineering and technology company who will work hand in hand with our design and engineering team and our technical innovation group. Together we will develop race-winning technology for our America’s Cup class boat.”
Representing Royal Yacht Squadron Racing, Land Rover BAR will start their challenge for the oldest trophy in sport at the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Portsmouth from 23rd to 26th July.
