The EFL has signed a three-year deal with Leasing.com for the car marketplace to become the new title sponsor of the EFL Trophy.

Leasing.com will replace trade vetting and monitoring website Checkatrade as the competition’s title sponsor. Checkatrade sponsored the EFL Trophy for three years.

Under the new agreement, the competition will be known as the Leasing.com Trophy for the 2019/20 to 2021/22 seasons. Leasing.com also becomes an official partner of the EFL and will be granted a portfolio of rights across the League and its digital network.

David Timmis, Founder and Managing Director of Leasing.com, said: “We want Leasing.com to become a household name and what better way to achieve that than to sponsor one of the most high-profile tournaments in English football.

“Car leasing used to be viewed as something that was only available to businesses, but we want everyone to know that leasing a new car is a simple, affordable option that all drivers should consider.

“Over the last 20 years we’ve already helped more than a million people find their perfect car leasing deal: this sponsorship offers an ideal opportunity for us to help millions more ‘Say goodbye to buying’. The EFL Trophy continues to grow every year and has huge potential, so it’s a perfect partnership and we can’t wait to get the ball rolling.”

The EFL Trophy is contested by clubs in League One and League Two, as well as 16 under-21 teams from Premier League and Championship clubs. Portsmouth won the competition last season.

This season’s EFL Trophy gets underway with this week as Manchester United U21s and Liverpool U21s make their competition debuts against Rotherham United and Oldham Athletic, respectively. The competition will continue in the same format as previous seasons and retain a prize fund of almost £3m.
