British seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has launched his own film and TV production company.
The new venture, called Dawn Apollo Films, has been set up with talent outfit Copper, which is run by his manager Penni Thow.
Hamilton has already revealed two of the projects he will be working on as an executive producer. The first will be a documentary about his personal life story and career in Formula 1.
Additionally, Dawn Appollo Films fill produce a Formula 1-based film featuring Brad Pitt and directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joe Kosinski.
The Apple TV+ project will see Pitt play a driver who comes out of retirement to compete alongside a rookie.
Despite Dawn Apollo Films linking up with Apple for its initial content offerings, there is no exclusive deal between the pair.
Speaking to US publisher Deadline, Hamilton said, “I try to move forward. Whether it’s positive or negative, I try to channel energy into the right direction through my work.
“I’ve always been into movies. I watch a lot. I find it a real escape. There are a lot of movies I find inspiring and I’ve always dreamed of one day doing something in this space.
“The question was often asked whether I would act. I’ve been very fortunate to be an F1 driver so I never really had time to dedicate to the craft of acting but a dream of mine has been to story-tell.”
The latest move expands on Hamilton’s off-track interests. In August he joined the Walton-Penner group, an ownership that went on to complete the purchase of NFL franchise the Denver Broncos. Before then, he also pledged support and funds into British Airways chairman Martin Broughton’s consortium’s attempt to buy Premier League club Chelsea.
