Official Supermarket of the England football team, Lidl has joined other FA and tournament partners in celebrating the semi-finalists’ return from Russia in their stores around the country.

The activity included an eye-catching “VIP-arking” stunt, in which reserved spaces for England stars were unveiled at their local stores in places such as Washington, hometown of Jordan Pickford, Crawley (Gareth Southgate) and Chingford (Harry Kane).

Lidl’s Russia 2018 campaign placed a stong emphasis on local communities, celebrating the people and places that helped to shape the Three Lions heroes.

The supermarket’s ‘Dream Big’ player story series featured interviews with the teachers, coaches and mentors who played a part in the journeys of stars including Kyle Walker, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, and Ashley Young.

The activation was part of the a wider ‘Dream Big with Lidl’ campaign incorporating ‘FA Lidl Skills’, the brand’s grassroots initiative, which has created 3 million opportunities for 5-11 year olds to play football over the last three years.

Christian Härtnagel, CEO of Lidl UK commented: “We’re delighted to be able to show our appreciation to Gareth and the incredible England team by celebrating in their local Lidl. As the Official Supermarket of the England Football Team we have been supporting the players for a number of years and, along with many others, feel very proud of what they’ve achieved.”

Visa was among other brands to mark the homecoming of England’s team, linking up with Transport for London in a stunt that saw Southgate Tube station renamed in honour of the England manager.
