Sports participation company, Limelight Sports, has enhanced its event portfolio with the acquisition of the world’s biggest duathlon, the London Duathlon.
The multi-sport event – first held in 2005 – is staged in Richmond Park, one of London’s Royal Parks, on Sunday 15th September and is the only mass participation event to close Richmond Park annually, enabling participants to compete in a Central London location traffic free.
Diccon Loy, commercial director (UK Properties) at Limelight Sports, commented: ‘The London Duathlon is the world’s biggest duathlon offering a unique experience for participants in the picturesque Richmond Park. Drawing on our expertise in delivering premium event experiences we see a significant opportunity to develop this established event into the world’s best duathlon.’
The event, acquired from World Endurance UK, consists of run-bike-run elements with distances ranging up to the Classic 55k (10k run, 40k bike and 5k run) along with a relay event.
The property joins a Limelight Sports portfolio that includes Boutique Sport, Home Run and most recently the UK’s first Energizer Night Run.
Craig Dews, chief executive at the Limelight Sports Group added: ‘Creating and acquiring event and technology IP is an integral part of our new long-term strategy. These elements will enhance our offer to new and existing brand clients and build significant value for the business.’
