LimeLight Sports has published a new sustainability manifesto, which will see it commit to a number of sustainability initiatives across the mass participation events it hosts, as well as signing up to the UN Sport for Climate Action Framework.

LimeLight says its manifesto addresses ‘three pillars of sustainability’ – social, environmental, and economic – and sets out the group’s long-term commitment to operating in a way that is ‘better for people and the planet’. It will also publish an annual impact report, to track progress and identify improvement targets for the future.

“As a purpose-driven business, we are proud of the positive impact that LimeLight Sports Group has each year, creating and delivering campaigns that enable hundreds of thousands of people to be active, and providing charities with fundraising opportunities that generate millions of pounds for good causes,” said Craig Dews, CEO, LimeLight Sports Group.

“However, we know that there is much more to do. Through the development of our sustainability manifesto, we are making a commitment to doing the right thing and continuing to hold ourselves to account.”

The commitment formalises the group’s sustainability efforts in participation sport, dating back more than a decade.

LimeLight’s 2008 collaboration with the environment saw it launch the Royal Parks Half Marathon, which has seen the implementation of several environmentally-sustainable initiatives since its inception, when it was one of the first major races in the UK to go plastic free, with the launch of a national #RunGreen campaign, which is still running today.

In addition to its manifesto, the group – which also runs mass participation races including the Asics London 10K, the Blenheim Palace Triathlon, the London Triathlon and the Oxford Half – has also joined the UN’s Sports for Climate Action initiative as a signatory to the Sports for Climate Action Framework.

LimeLight Sports joins a host of sport, entertainment and media organisations across the world who have signed up to the framework, which calls on sport organisations to acknowledge sport’s contribution to climate change.
