Urs Linsi, the general secretary of FIFA, has resigned from his post at the
world football governing body after completing a five-year term of office.
Linsi was the driving force behind a complete restructure of FIFA’s finances
following allegations of corruption that arose around seven years ago.
Linsi, who also oversaw the construction of the new FIFA offices in Lausanne,
leaves following the completion of the 2003-2006 financial period which the
governing body claims offers complete transparency into its operations.
It is unclear at this point as to whether Linsi has moved onto another job,
the former general secretary stating only that it was time to ‘seek new
challenges elsewhere’.
FIFA will now reorganise itself for the 2007-2010 period, which has just
begun. The FIFA Executive Committee will decide on the appropriate
organisational structure at its meeting on 27th June 2007.
Until such time, Dr Markus Kattner, director of finance and controlling, will
assume responsibility for FIFA’s affairs as acting general secretary.
