Liverpool FC Women will play their home fixtures at St. Helens Stadium from the 2024/25 WSL season, the club has announced.
Liverpool has signed a ten-year lease that will see the team relocate to the 18,000-seat Merseyside venue, which also houses the St. Helens Saints rugby league club.
A new, ‘Premier League-standard’ pitch has been installed at the stadium, as well as enhanced team facilities. The women’s team will also have their own dedicated dressing room, with team branding to adorn the venue on match-days.
Liverpool says it is aiming for LFC Women to play a number of fixtures at Anfield in the near future.
The news marks the latest milestone for LFC Women, after the club bought back Melwood Training Ground last year for its women’s first team. The men’s side had trained at the historic training ground between the 1950s and 2020, when the team relocated to the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby.
Since 2018, LFC Women have played at Prenton Park in the Wirral, which is the home of men’s EFL League Two side Tranmere Rovers.
Susan Black, Liverpool FC Women executive director, said, “This is another step forward for our women’s first team and we’re so excited to relocate to a new long-term home.
“Our players and incredible supporters were at the forefront of our decision-making process. We are confident St Helens will be a great match-day home and will look and feel part of the Liverpool family.
“As founding members of the Women’s Super League, we want to continue the work we’ve put in place and continue to progress in the league both on and off the pitch.
“Our next chapter for our women’s first team is about building solid foundation stones and today’s matchday venue announcement is another positive step forward on our journey.”
