FA Premier League club Liverpool has appointed Ian Ayre as its new commercial
director with a principal brief of increasing the club’s international reach.
Ayre takes up his newly created post on 16th August moving on from sports
marketing agency Total Sports Asia where he was chief operating officer.
The new commercial director will hold responsibility for growing the
Liverpool brand internationally, particularly in the lucrative Asian market
where Ayre’s contacts will be key.
Ayre will also oversee all the club’s sponsorship deals for Liverpool’s new
stadium, including the potential for a naming rights sponsor, with the ground
due to be opened in 2010.
Ayre’s previous roles include stints as managing director of Premium TV, a
subsidiary of NTL, and chairman and chief executive of Huddersfield Town FC.
