Liverpool FC has expanded its global presence with the signing of its first regional sponsorship deal in India, confirming a three-year deal with Xolo, who becomes the official partner in the smart mobile devices category.
As part of the deal, Xolo will leverage exclusive Liverpool-related merchandise content created for users of its phones and tablets, launch events in tandem with the official Liverpool supporters’ club, and will provide opportunities for fans and clients to visit Anfield to watch the team’s home games.
The deal was confirmed at a press conference at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground via video link with Xolo officials in India.
Liverpool FC chief commercial officer Billy Hogan said of the deal: ‘We have millions of fans in India and we are committed to bringing the club closer to them.’
‘Teaming up with Xolo and launching our very first international academy in Pune represents the start of our journey in India to make fans feel like their club is right on their doorstep.’
Sunil Raina, the business head of Xolo, added: ‘Liverpool FC is one of the most popular clubs in the country, with an iconic legacy. We’re thrilled to have this association with a club that is revered as it seeks to grow the popularity of the sport in India. Through this association with Liverpool FC we will seek to not only increase connect with the youth but also drive growth for football in India.’
The Barclays Premier League side will also open the LFC International Football Academy for young players in Pune later this year, in partnership with I League 2nd Division side DSK Shivajians.
Last September, the club’s MD Ian Ayre told members of the Nolan Partners Sport Industry Breakfast Club about the need to expand its presence around the world. Find out more about the quarterly networking events here.
