Liverpool Reviews New Stadium Capacity

Liverpool’s new US owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have called a halt to
work on the club’s new stadium as they look to review increasing the size of the
venue beyond the planned 60,000 capacity.

The current plans for the new stadium in Stanley Park have set the capacity
at 60,000 but it is understood that Hicks and Gillett are keen to add a further
10,000 to 20,000 seats.

Liverpool are looking to move in to their new home by 2009 but, should
changes to the planned capacity be enforced, this date will doubtless be put
back as it would involve going through a new planning application process.

Liverpool has yet to confirm the decision to suspend preparatory work on the
£215m project, but has revealed a review will be undertaken.

A Liverpool spokesman said: ‘There is a total commitment to a new stadium but
the new owners are conducting a thorough review of the current proposals, to see
if there is any way they can be improved.’
