Liverpool have won a court battle with New Balance, paving the way for the Premier League side to strike a deal with Nike, who are set to become the club’s new kit manufacturer.
The European Champions’ current deal with New Balance comes to an end at the end of the 2019/20 season, and while the Reds had wanted to switch suppliers at the end of the contract, the American sportswear firm had argued that it had a ‘matching clause’ to allow it to continue on as a Liverpool partner providing it matched the figures Nike had promised.
The club, however, fended off that argument, arguing that New Balance could not match the other offer on the basis that Nike had more means to market and distribute Liverpool’s kit around the world.
Liverpool said in a statement: “Liverpool FC is pleased with the judge’s decision to rule in favour of the club following the legal dispute with our current kit supplier, New Balance.
“We will continue with New Balance for the current season, in combination with preparing next season’s Liverpool kits with our new supplier.”
Meanwhile, the club have also confirmed that Liverpool Women will play their Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield on 17th November. The match will be the latest in a string of WSL games taking place in larger stadiums usually used by Premier League teams, and will kick off during a men’s international break in order to increase attendances.
