London 2017’s commitment to delivering record breaking attendances,
should the city be awarded the right to host the World Athletics
Championship, has received a huge boost after a recent survey revealed
that UK sports fans appear to be backing the bid. ?
?According
to the survey, conducted by Nielsen, more than 80% of London 2012
athletics ticket holders said they are likely to purchase a ticket to
the 2017 World Athletics Championships should it take place in the
Olympic Stadium in London according to a recent survey. ? ?
Meanwhile
London has also topped another recent poll by SMG, the You Gov Global
Major Events Survey 2011, which asked sports fans around the world which
city they were most likely to visit for an event.
This placed London at the top of 14 cities including New York, Sydney, Barcelona, Rio, Moscow and Doha. ?
?In
the same survey, the World Athletics Championships topped a poll of
sports events British fans would most like to see coming to London post
2012. ? ?
Chief executive of London 2017 and UKA, Niels de Vos
said: ‘This is a massive show of support for a World Championships in
London from sports fans across Britain and the world.’? ?
‘We
expect to fill the Olympic Stadium for every single session morning and
evening and this survey of 2012 ticket holders validates our belief that
we can do this. If we are given the honour of hosting the World
Athletics Championships in London the athletes competing in the Olympic
Stadium will do so in front of a full, passionate and knowledgeable
crowd.’?
?’A full stadium for every session in an iconic venue
such as London’s Olympic Stadium will provide the world’s media with an
incredible backdrop to the on track drama.’
