Shell has been forced to abandon its plans to film a TV advert featuring Formula
One cars racing around the streets of London after the local authorities voiced
concerns over safety.

The London element of the ad, which is to promote Shell’s V-Power
high-performance fuel, was vetoed by the City of London Police in conjunction
with the Corporation of London over ‘concerns about public safety’.

The shoot was scheduled to form part of a global advertising campaign for
Shell with similar races filmed around other cities around the world including
New York and Rome.

The ad campaign, created by JWT, will still run without the London excerpts
launching on 1 March.

The first spot is a nine-minute film available on interactive TV, online and
DVD which is supported by shorter TV and press ads.
