London is among three cities in the running to host the 2015 World Athletics Championships, the International Association of Athletics Federations has revealed.
The city, due to host the Olympic Games in 2012, will battle it out with Chinese capital Beijing and Polish city Chorzow to stage the IAAF’s flagship event.
The World Athletic Championships is held biannually and will be hosted by Daegu in South Korea next year and in Moscow, Russia in 2013.
The IAAF is due to announce the host city of the 2015 Championships in November.
It is rumoured that a successful London bid could clear up the unresolved future of the Olympic Stadium.
Recently London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe insisted that athletics remains the priority of the stadium after the Olympics.
However, Premier League club West Ham has also expressed an interest in moving to the 80,000 capacity stadium.
