The Global Poker League (GPL) has announced that the first finals will be held in London as the competition prepares to begin its debut campaign next week.
The six-month tournament will see 12 franchise teams go head-to-head, culminating in a play-off event in North America before heading to Wembley for the first GPL Finals on 22nd – 23rd November.
The first live match takes place on Tuesday 5th April, live-streamed on GPL.TV and Twitch.
The GPL aims to bring an innovative approach to the game, with players paid to play and players placed in The Cube for fans to watch.

While the bulk of the GPL’s content distribution will be via GPL.TV and its mobile applications, Mediarex Sports & Entertainment, GPL’s parent company, has built a distribution network, which includes USA Today Sports, Twitch.tv, DouyuTV in China and PokeCentral.
Global Poker League president Alex Dreyfus said: “While there is a huge existing fan base for poker, it is largely fragmented because of the isolated nature of existing poker initiatives. GPL has an aggressive vision to build new storylines and narratives to engage poker fans with the poker stars playing in the league.”
“London, gives us the opportunity to build a fully immersive, interactive experience for the GPL Finals thanks to its regulated online sports betting environment. We are going to connect fans with one another as well as the GPL players at a leading entertainment venue. The experience is more than just ‘sit and watch’ – its full engagement.”
