Aviva Premiership rugby club London Irish has launched an ad hoc marketing stunt after a life-size cut-out cardboard figure of scrum-half Paul Hodgson was stolen from a pub in Reading.
The cut-out was first placed in the pub as part of an ongoing promotional campaign which saw pubs enter a competition to allow their customers to win an exclusive matchday experience including tickets, photo with a player and a signed shirt.
However, after the sales promotion material placed in the O’Neills pub in Reading was stolen within an hour of being installed, London Irish looked to take advantage of the incident and is now running a series of ‘Missing’ posters around the town requesting the return of the cut-out.
The ‘Hodgson’s Return’ campaign, implemented by the club’s incumbent marketing agency Bamboo Marketing Communications, will see whoever helps find the missing cardboard figure given a chance to have a pint of beer with the scrum-half in the pub in question.
