Lonsdale Strikes Kit Deal With The Contender

Lonsdale has signed up as the official equipment and apparel provider for the UK
team in the new series of reality TV programme ‘The Contender’ which sees
amateur boxers compete in national teams against each other.

The new series, to be broadcast on ITV over a six-week period, will follow
teams from the UK and US before the competition climaxes at the Metroradio
Arena, Newcastle on 30th March in front of 10,000 people.

Whichever team wins the most fights on the night will be presented with the
Sugar Ray Leonard Cup. Former WBA world feather-weight champion, Barry McGuigan,
will captain the UK team, whilst seven time world champion, Sugar Ray Leonard,
will be at the helm of the USA team.

Under its apparel deal, each member of the UK team will be kitted out in
Lonsdale from head to toe in and outside of the ring with Lonsdale even
providing the formal suits.
