Lord’s Redevelopment To Go Underground

Plans for the redevelopment of Lord’s have revealed an ambitious proposal to create several underground tiers below the Nursery Ground.

Likely to cost about £400m, the reconstruction plans for the cricket ground now include subterranean levels which will allegedly house an enlarged cricket academy, a facility for research, kitchens for the entire ground that can house up to 100 chefs, a health and fitness club, and a sports injury clinic among other facilities. Additionally, the plans suggest that museum – which was expected to move to its own location – will be expanded and sit underground.

These plans have yet to be approved by the MCC committee. However, should they get the green light, an application will then go to the Westminster Council.

Formerly, these underground sites – originally Victorian railway tunnels – were to be renovated. But this new plan for Lord’s is a much more extensive proposal.

Already an expensive redevelopment plan, the extent of this underground section will depend on costs involved and what engineers find deep under the surface.
