Lord’s Threatened By ECB Proposal

The MCC’s plans to redevelop Lord’s have reportedly been threatened by the England and Wales Cricket Board’s alleged move to have a greater spread of England games at cricket grounds around the country.

One of cricket’s iconic venues, Lord’s currently holds two England Test matches every year. However, under the new plans, the flagship ground would hold as few as two Tests guaranteed every five years.

The move would significantly endanger the £200m re-development plan that the MCC, which owns Lord’s, has put in place.

Cardiff will host the first Test of next year’s Ashes Series for the first time in its history while venues like Durham’s Riverside ground and The Rose Bowl at Southampton have been lobbying had for recognition as Test-holding venues.
